Our Founder
Janet M. Smith
Hi. I’m Janet, the owner, senior trainer, and EO (Eternal Optimist) at The Loop Learning Center. If you’ve gotten to this part of our website, you know a little about what lies at the heart of the Loop brand.
INSPIRING CHANGE – TRANSFORMING LIVES
For over 15 years, I’ve worked, in some capacity or another with high risk individuals involved with the criminal justice system. During that time, the desire to use my teaching gift (and quirky sense of humor) to contribute to making my community safer and to see fewer people behind bars was ignited. Thus, the genesis of The Loop Learning Center.
I’m just a little fish in a large pond who’s on a mission to see people become the best possible version of themselves. Why? Because I believe that mercy triumphs over judgement; I believe that every human being has value; and I believe in YOU! I believe that you have the capacity to live a productive life and if given the right tools, support, and encouragement, you’ll be inspired to uncover your true potential, value, and strengths. (Dang, there goes that optimistic stuff oozing out again.)
I’m certified by the National Anger Management Association (NAMA) as an Anger Management Specialist. In addition, I have certification as a Domestic Violence Facilitator and a Moral Recognition Therapy Facilitator (MRT) by Correctional Counseling, Inc. – boy, that’s a mouthful. In other words, I help folks make better decisions about right and wrong behavior.. In my spare time I enjoy reading. My greatest joy? Watching my ten grandchildren grow and come into their own. Proudest challenge? Returning to college after being out of school for over 30 years. Life’s goal? To be a Grow-Giver (to continue to grow, to be able to give). Most valuable treasure? My faith and relationship with God.
Well, enough about me. Just know that I do what I do because I LOVE what I do.
Our Work
Our Strategy
Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) Evidence-Based Training And Double Loop Learning
We selected MRT as our primary cognitive behavior program model (a program that looks at patterns of thinking or behavior behind people’s difficulties) for one reason – It Works! Our curriculums are used in many settings including behavior and mental, substance use disorder programs, private treatment and criminal justice settings.
Douple Loop Learning is an educational concept and process that involves teaching people to think more deeply about their own assumptions and beliefs.
Classes are designed to equip our clients with essential skills that help them reduce their involvement with the criminal justice system, reduce recidivism, foster moral development, increase housing stability and job retention, and raise motivation level. Clients will be challenged to examine underlining erroneous assumptions that foster a sense of entitlement, self-justification, blaming others, and taking the ‘victim’ stance. Our ultimate goal is to inspire clients to be the BEST that they can be.
Simply stated, through MRT, double loop education, group sessions, and structured exercises, we help our clients make better moral decisions.

Our primary evidenced-based curriculum was developed by Correctional Counseling Inc. (CCI), and is used in criminal justice agencies across America. Our participative teaching approach encourages clients to become actively involved in their learning process.

MRT is approved by SAMHSA for mental health treatment, substance abuse treatment, and co-occurring disorders. (Correctional Counseling, Inc. is the sole provider of certified MRT trainings.)
The National Association of Anger Management (NAMA) is the international professional association for the field of anger management.
